Kitchen Renovation commencing at WKC Monday 18 January 2021

Dear Families,

We wanted to communicate with you about an important upgrade to our facilities. Commencing Monday 18 January our kitchen renovation will begin. This is for the kitchen located adjacent to the stage area of the WKC office. The P&C has approved for Wilston Kids Care to refresh our kitchen space with all new cabinetry, counter tops, cupboard doors and we are also installing an oven and dishwasher. This is something that has been needed for some time and we are excited we can get this across the line during the holiday period before Term 1 starts.

Please be mindful when coming next week, that Monday to Friday we will be balancing this renovation during the day. The kitchen area will be fenced off from the children for their safety and breakfast will be operated down at the tuckshop area (in the coffee club space) for the week whilst the work is occurring. We will lose access to our kitchen space during this time but will use the facilities within our P&C tuckshop space temporarily for that week.

Once we take out all the items from the cupboards on Monday, Tuesday the workman will begin the plumbing and electrical work followed by some minor demolition to remove the old counter tops and cupboard doors. Once all the new cabinetry and appliances are installed the space will be painted and a splashback will be placed up and waterproofed. We will then have a fully functional kitchen that can really support our large breakfast sessions, support cooking lessons, and have the appropriate facilities to wash all the dishes and utensils we use for the high number of children who attend Before and After School Care.

We will make a new entrance on our stage area so when you leave the stage, rather than using the exit closer to the kitchen , you can use the exit at the other end of this stage area to the undercover area. There will be staff available at the office to direct you on the day and if your child wants breakfast once signed in, just encourage them to go to the tuckshop area. They will see the tables and chairs and the Educator in charge of the breakfast area.

During this renovation, the children and staff’s safety will be our primary focus. Large fences will seal off the kitchen so children cannot access this area. The same company who renovated the tuckshop space this time last year, will be renovating our kitchen space at WKC. We thank our P&C who supported us to make this happen for our learning community.

Thank you for being so supportive and understanding during this time and we look forward to seeing and enjoying our new kitchen space ready for Term 1 2021!

Kind Regards
