Lost property process at Wilston Kids Care

We would like to communicate to all the families about our lost property process at Wilston Kids Care.

Wilston Kids Care regularly goes through any lost property given to us by children and Educators. If we find any clearly named items, we will leave a message on your sign in/out kiosk, as a reminder for the parents/guardians to collect for the Wilston Kids Care office.

If you click read on the kiosk, and do not collect the items, at the end of each week these items will be delivered to D Block.

All unnamed items will be taken directly to D Block. We encourage all families to clearly write your child’s name on everything a child is responsible for. This is the best way to ensure if lost, the item can be returned to you.

Like at school, primary school aged children are responsible for their own property such as bags, hats, drink bottles, shoes, socks, jumpers etc. Our staff regularly remind children to pack their bags and ensure all contents are placed inside the bag (not on top of it) to ensure these items are safe. They also remind children when they take jumpers and hats off, to put them inside their bag. Outside of this, it is not the Educators responsibility to look after the children’s personal belongings. Educators are there to keep children safe and to ensure they are fed and looked after during each session. They have a huge responsibility caring for 260 children and ensuring their safety whilst they are here.

As children can sometimes make mistakes when being responsible for their property, if your child accidentally brings an item home that does not belong to them, please send back asap to the Service so we can return it to its rightful owner. We understand this can be a mistake, but when children accidentally take the wrong item home it can cause distress for the children and their family who have lost it and do not know where it has gone.

Lost property is a shared community issue. It is important we work together, to ensure items are clearly named so they can always be returned to the rightful owner. This coupled with reinforcing to your child about looking after their own property helps to combat missing items occurring when at Wilston Kids Care. Please do not encourage your child to take a hat out of the lost property if they have forgotten their hat. These hats are in the lost property area because they are lost and waiting for their owner to find them. They are not there to use because a child has forgotten their hat.

Thank you for your cooperation and helping Wilston Kids Care and the children to try and minimise the lost property cycle.

Kind regards
